West Ham Away Shirts in the 80’s
West Hams’ away shirt from 1980-83 was sticking to its traditional roots in still getting some claret and blue in there. The shirt was white, with a claret v-neck collar, and a thick claret line on the sleeve with individual thinner blue lines on them. The blue Adidas logo was to the left as the viewer looked at it, with the club crest on the other side. However, the club crest was lighter than the home shirts’ crest.

1980-83
The away shirt for the seasons beginning in 1983 and ending in 1985 was slightly different to its’ descendant. It was still white, but instead had light blue pinstripes down the front to make reference to the clubs traditional colours. There was no blue on the sleeves this time, and all of the claret sections seem a little darker, although that may be down to the lighting in the images. The club crest also went back to its’ traditional roots. Also, the away shirt had no sponsor.

1983-85
From 1985-87, the away shirt didn’t differ much. Although the stripes were horizontal rather than vertical, it still looked similar, despite there this time being a sponsor, as on the home strip, AVCO. Also, there was blue piping at the end of the sleeves, and in the middle of the collar. There was also claret piping on the inner side of the shirts.

1985-87
From 1987-89, the style of the shirt took a more modern twist. It was that of a glossy white sheen, with shiny light blue inner side areas. The piping on the end of the sleeves and the collar was much thicker, and a darker claret tone. The clubs’ crest also moved back to the centre of the shirt, to correspond with the home shirt of that season.
