Everton Away Shirts in the 1980s
In the 1980s, the Toffees, as Everton FC are nicknamed, changed the shirt manufacturer twice, and had two different shirt sponsors. During this period, Everton had a variety of triumphs, both domestically and on a European level. This has been partly attributed to successful manager Howard Kendall, who managed the Toffees (for the first time, because he has two other spells with the club in the 90s) between 1981 and 1987. Everton were crowned First Division champions for 1984/85 and 1986/87, and runners-up in the same league in 1985/86. In the FA Cup, Everton finished as winners in 1984, and as runners-up in 1985, 1986 and 1989. They won the 1984 League Cup, and all Charity Shields between 1984 and 1987. Their biggest success in this decade was winning the 1985 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. The club had 6 different away kits.
1979-1982
This was the first time that Everton has a shirt sponsor, being Hafnia. Umbro were the manufacturers of the kit. The shirt was yellow, with a blue long collar and blue details on the sleeves. It was complemented by blue shorts with yellow side details, and yellow socks.
1982-1983

Hafnia continued to sponsor the Toffees’ kits for this season, and Umbro were once again the manufacturers. The base colour was changed to white. The shirt had blue chest piping, and a blue V-neck collar. Blue shorts and blue socks complete this season’s away kit.
1983-1985
Everton changed their shirt sponsor Umbro by signing a deal with French brand Le Coq Sportif. This was the last period sponsored by Hafnia. The primary colour used for the away shirt is grey. The shirt has a circular blue collar, while both the shorts and the socks have minor blue details.
1985-1986

For this season, Le Coq Sportif manufactured a yellow kit for the club, which was sponsored by NEC. The shirt had a blue V-neck collar, while the yellow shorts and socks had blue details.
1986-1988

Umbro signed a new deal with Everton to replace the French brand, and start a deal which lasted beyond this decade to the year 2000. Yellow was once again the away colour. The yellow shirt had a blue V-neck collar and blue details on the shoulders extending to divide the body part from the sleeves. NEC had their logo in blue on this shirt. The away shorts were blue, with a yellow corner on the left leg. The socks were yellow with blue details.
1988-1990
This kit was manufactured by Umbro and sponsored by NEC, and consisted on a shirt striped in white and grey, blue shorts with white side details, and white socks.
